Uncovering My Art Style
Over the past few weeks I've been taking a class to help me lean into my own personal art style and artistic voice. This is something that I've been working on for years, and honestly I don't think this process ever ends for an artist.
Last week I spent hours taking different subject matter (mostly flowers) and drawing them over and over again until I could distill them down into a style that felt like mine. I've loved focusing on line work ever since I started learning how to draw, so I'm trying to capture things using primarily lines.
I decided to torture myself a bit by doing this exercise with a rose, which is one of the hardest flowers for me to draw because of how the petals layer on top of one another. I sat down with my sketchbook, and started out by trying to capture it as realistically as I could at first, then slowly refining until I stylized it in a way I like.
Below is where I landed, and I also applied this same style to a few of my other favorite flowers.

I'm still nailing down how much detail I want to add with my lines, but already I'm starting to see a cohesive style emerge.
Below are all of the messy sketches that led to this final stylization.
