Daffodil Trailing Floral Pattern

Daffodil Trailing Floral Pattern

This line-art style I've been developing keeps pulling me back in. A couple of weeks ago, I shared how I was taking a class to uncover my art style, drawing the same subjects over and over until something clicked. I've been leaning into this style since. Every pattern I work on now, I'm asking myself how far I can push the line work before adding anything else.

Daffodils are my favorite flower and one of my favorite subjects to draw. Even though I've drawn them a million times, I'm still finding myself drawing them in my sketchbook over and over again. I love how the petals sit, how the stems curl and wind. My studies of them lately fed directly into this pattern.

As is always the story with me, color is the one aspect I'm always working through. I want the palettes to stay simple, but I also don't want the patterns to feel flat. After some experimentation this colorway was the one I liked best. The color adds some interest but the line work is still the star of the show.

Keep reading to see how this pattern developed from start to finish!
